Get the Blues if you know what’s good for you

My mantra in life is “all it takes is unlimited resources.” I tend to hang around idea hamsters. People are fairly exploding with great ideas, but no way to make them happen. Once in a while an opportunity comes along. The UWA Virlantis sim is closing in a few months, but meanwhile it’s paid for, so JayJay decided to line up a bunch of artists and just let each one have their way with it for a month.

I don’t often rave about an artist’s work in public. (I’m certainly known to have strong opinions (both positive and negative) in private.) Please come to see the full-sim installation by Blue Tsuki called “Vessel.”

Vessel installation by Blue TsukiBlue is an artist I have greatly admired for a long time, though I’ve only met him briefly a couple of times. You can always count on him to do something unique and interesting. That’s a key element for me. I’ve been around long enough to see if something is derivative and I can often spot influences. My own work is generally derivative and I make no apologies for that. There is nothing at all wrong with exploring someone else’s idea and getting inspiration from it. But what get’s my heart pumping is a vision I’ve never seen or could never have imagined. Blue does that routinely.

“Vessel” is a well-planned and skillfully executed large-scale installation, from the very cool terraformed … fingerhenge?…some kind of ancient sacred place on the surface. . .  to the astounding camera views throughout the piece… I could say little more than…wow…

I would be hard pressed to imagine an installation on this scale (though it would be fun to try).  It’s hard for me to wrap my brain around something so complex and yet so coherent. I won’t try to explain or describe his piece. Just go see it.
